Birth Spacing, Fertility and Neonatal Mortality in India: Dynamics, Frailty and Fecundity

چکیده
Birth Spacing, Fertility and Neonatal Mortality in India: Dynamics, Frailty and Fecundity A dynamic panel data model of neonatal mortality and birth spacing is analyzed, accounting for causal effects of birth spacing on subsequent mortality and of mortality on the length of the next birth interval, while controlling for unobserved heterogeneity in mortality (frailty) and birth spacing (fecundity). The model is estimated using micro data on almost 30,000 children of 7,300 Indian mothers, for whom a complete retrospective record of fertility and child mortality is available. Information on sterilization is used to identify an equation for completion of family formation that is needed to account for right-censoring in the data. We find clear evidence of frailty, fecundity, and causal effects of birth spacing on mortality and vice versa, but find that birth interval effects can explain only a limited share of the correlation between neonatal mortality of successive children in a family. We also predict the impact of mortality on total fertility. Model simulations suggest that, for every neonatal death, an additional 0.37 children are born, of whom 0.3 survive. Background and objectives: Birth spacing is an important variable for identification of fertility acceleration, total fertility rate, and maternal and fetal health. Therefore, special attention has been paid to this issue by researchers in the fields of medical sciences, health, and population. In addition, proper analysis of this concept is of foremost importance. Application of classical anal...
متن کاملAnalysis of trends in birth outcomes and fertility measures in the rural population of east Azerbaijan province, Iran: 2001 - 2013
Background and Purpose: Birth outcomes and fertility measures are commonly evaluated in Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP) in the field of public health. Given the key role of time- trend study in the projection of current data to the future, this population-based study aimed to describe the significant changes of birth outcomes and fertility measures in the rural population...

BACKGROUND The distribution of birth intervals can be used to draw attention to important characteristics of dynamics of fertility process. The main objective of this paper is to examine the effects of socioeconomic, demographic and proximate determinants on the length of birth intervals of women of Bangladesh and also to see whether the effects are changed over the years. METHODS Birth inter...
متن کاملPnm-24: Neonatal Outcomes in Assisted Reproductive Technology Pregnancies
Background Preterm birth is the most important factor in neonatal morbidity and mortality. In the case of pregnancy with assisted reproductive technology (ART) we have more percentage of multiple pregnancies which is a strong reason for preterm birth and low birth weight so suggested that ART can affect neonatal outcomes. In this article we searched about neonatal outcomes in ART pregnancies. M...
